[ coming back to the station this time was a lot harder than any pervious times. perhaps it's talking so much about the friends he's lost, thinking about them, only to realize the other half of his room is empty.
drift's gone, so are plenty of others.
mal' should be used to losing friends but it's never easier, so he hides out in the sunlight room more often than normal and sneaks away when he sees someone approaching. he's tempted to not follow kovacs, he is, but he'd be lying if he said he doesn't need a distraction.
he sets the unloaded gun down in his lap and then nods before moving to put everything away quickly. ] I'd be foolish to say no.
Everyone could use something in that backpack after this one. [ after every mission but-- well. yeah. ]
[ it's a relieving thing, seeing mal, being able to count him amongst the people that didn't just up and disappear during the mission or after. admittedly, he's decent company to have around too, for times like these, since they both occasionally need the chance to ease off a bit, especially when coming back from whatever planet they spent weeks or months stuck on. ]
Might need to double my restock next time.
[ though he probably doesn't care to become known as that guy. marta would probably be disappointed if that's the kind of reputation he developed around here. though it can't be any worse than the ones he's already made for himself. ]
I did pick up something from the mission? Some potent pipeweed that'll knock a man to the floor. [ which is what he told degar about it. to mal, it had been more potent than any pipeweed he'd ever smoked. the hallucinations and feeling he was in another world were a new added touch.
he stuffs everything in the rucksack that he carries with him and stands, dusting off dirt from the cargo pants that he's wearing currently. ] If you'd rather keep your stock? I can return the favor for once.
