[She takes a moment to reply, but when she does, there's the sound of a paper page turning; she clears her throat and reads in a fake-official voice:]
"A nerd is a person seen as overly intellectual, obsessive, introverted or lacking social skills. Such a person may spend inordinate amounts of time on unpopular, little known, or non-mainstream activities, which are generally either highly technical, abstract, or relating to topics of science fiction or fantasy, to the exclusion of more mainstream activities."
[A pause.]
Pretty alive? Better than Barely alive, I guess.
... Who knew a mission that only lasted a few days on some lame train would be just as dangerous as the others?
Doesn't sound like me. [ no one would call malyen oretsev an intellectual but there were a lot of big words in there. ] Unless you know something I don't?
Didn't get out of fighting the monster with no bruises.
Feels like it might have been worse than the others. A lot of people are pretty upset with how it turned out.
Oh, sure, but I just throw random names at people I think aren't so bad.
It's a sign of endearment. Maybe.
But... yeah. It's been a kind of — intense atmosphere, around the station.
... The weird lizard monster never made it to the car me and a bunch of people were hiding in... So I guess this is me just wanting to thank you, since I heard to finally killed it.
Maybe. I don't know you well enough yet to tell if you deserve getting insulted sarcastically or not.
I won't say all the missions are... that nuts, but... yeah. Most of the time, we tend to come back pretty wound up. So far, anyway. The mission at Badrock was especially bad; we were almost as bad a mess then, too. We'd learned everyone we were living with for a month there had been dead all along, and they turned to dust when the orb revealed itself.
... Then a bunch of bandits came and tried to murder us all.
They turned to dust and were dead all along.... [ mal repeats it, not quite able to wrap his brain around that. he hadn't considered the extent of what the orbs can do, even with the release of a monster from another world on their train. ] And... you got the orb?
Someone was saying that we don't leave places better off than we found them all the time. I'm guessing that was one of those.
[ and then he raises a brow. ] Did you fight any bandits?
We got the orb, too. But the orb itself was... kind of a psychopath. It left the guy who used it to be tormented forever. Like... wandering this wasteland, never allowed to die kind of torment.
Think about all the power they'd need just fixing all the mistakes and regrets we're bringing to it. Keeping one guy alive to wander his planet endlessly is probably just a pebble in the bucket.
Yeah... okay. I didn't think of that. [ she has a fair point and he has very few brain cells after all those brawls. ] And it's keeping all of us alive so... yeah. Makes sense.

Pretty alive, I think. [ at least here, he's still kicking. mal's not convinced this isn't a strange after life still. ]

might find yourself being called nerd later, ziggy. ] Maybe?
Is it always like that after missions? People are pretty cagey about all of them so far.
It was Andy and me. [ can't take all the credit. ] Glad you were safe. Hopefully next one, there won't be a monster to hide from.

They can do that? Keep people alive like that?
