[She doesn't even bother responding to that silliness. Instead, after about ten minutes she steps into the infirmary and slips right over to him, bypassing speaking to everyone else in the room. When she reaches his bedside she frowns down at him, concern winning out over her annoyance at how he doesn't seem to be taking this all that seriously.
He wanted her to explain, so here she goes.]
You are bleeding. Blood is supposed to be inside you, yes, but it's supposed to be in the right places inside you, not just filling up wherever the bleed happens to be. Can I fix you now?
[That's totally what he meant right? Totally what internal bleeding was and not why she was able to actually heal him.]
he's seated in the bed that he's been calling his own for the last two days, bandages around his middle and along his arms. he's been scratched up and while doctor mccoy's technology seemed to get a good amount of it, mal'd been wary of it.
less so than magic but, well, rey looks determined as she marches up. it reminds mal a bit of alina, determined and not about to let him argue. he would argue, will argue, but he knows it's nearly moot.
mal's not smart persay, but he does recognize when someone's avoiding something. ] Okay, sure. My blood may not be in the right places inside but that doesn't explain the whole life force thing. [ he quirks an eyebrow. not letting that go, not when has some unpleasant memories tied with heartrenders. ]
[Her lips press together in an unimpressed line, but she won't force anything on him he isn't ready for. She's from a world where the Force had been lost but had always been accepted, had never been truly feared as long as she had been alive, but she can take one look at him and see he isn't exactly comfortable with what she's offering him.]
In my world we have something called the Force that connects everything together. There are some people who can use it, and people who can use it well and master it are called Jedi. That's what I am.
[It's also a very simplistic explanation, but it's close enough to get the idea across.]
So when I tell you I can heal you, what I would be doing is using my life force to mend the things that are injured in you. It's your body doing the healing, but with me - powering it. Like a battery.
[ mal listens to that explanation, trying to make sense of it. it doesn't sound like the magic particular to his world, if it's something everywhere. ] So it's a power that's everywhere, but not everyone uses it?
[ and he looks more comfortable with that except, well, that raises a new point. ] You're giving up your life force to heal me? Or to have my body heal itself. [ see, he's getting parts of it. ] And that doesn't hurt you?
[Her smile is small but warm and she nods to confirm he's got it now.]
Exactly. It'll make me a little tired, but as long as I don't try to bring anyone back from the dead it shouldn't kill me. You still look very much alive, despite your best efforts.
That thing was enormous.
[Instead of that sounding like an admonishment, though, she's really just very impressed.]
not in his own world. ] Yes, well. I can't be dying while I am here. [ he lets out a soft sigh and then nods. ] But if you can bring back the dead, I should be alright. [ that's meant to be a joke, because humor is easier than letting tension settle.
mal's not funny, not really, but he can charm when he wants to. ] I'll try not to fight any more giant lizards in the mean time. It was huge and fast. [ because mal can be very cocky too. ]
You're dead too? [ mal raises a brow. he'd meant that if he dies, he would be alright but... well. there is that too.
so he nods, slowly. ] Yeah, I guess.
[ he takes a deep breath and nods, closing his eyes and tilting his head back like he's still looking up and away. ] Go ahead. [ it's not that he distrusts rey, but that he doesn't quite trust anyone or their powers here. there's on exception so far but that trust has been built through a lifetime together, before alina's sunlight tore them apart and then mal clawed his way to fjerde and across ravka to find her again. ]
[The touch of her fingertips to his stomach is so light he might not feel it right away, but that bit of contact feels almost necessary to her now when she can't actually see the wound she's healing. Before it had been obvious punctures and there had been no question what needed to be mended, but with this she has to actually find the source of his pain.
The touch of the Force to his body is like a cool balm, something gentle that moves through him to stitch back together lacerations and ease pulled and torn muscle, to guide blood back into its proper channels. It's oddly easy to set him to rights once she starts and by the time she opens her eyes after it's done she's just a little proud of herself, of how far she's come.
Leia would be proud and just that thought alone is enough to make her smile, softly.]
[ the touch is feather light and mal doesn't mind it, even if he nearly hisses when she presses down to feel.
the force is different from the grip of a heartrender's magic, which left mal gasping for air and blood burning in his veins. he gasps, reaches up to grab her wrist but doesn't pull it away.
when she stops his brows furrow and mal takes a moment, a deep breath. ] Yes.
[Once, that unexpected grab would have earned him a punch in the face but right now, in this context and with Mal being someone she's come to trust she doesn't so much as flinch. Instead, once she finishes she leaves her hand where it is on his stomach and uses her other one to touch the back of the hand grabbing her wrist gently. Not to pull away or tell him to stop, but just... a connection. Something nice after something that might have had him a little nervous, a little worried.
It's a small gesture, but from her it does mean quite a lot.
And when he speaks she can't help the soft laugh that sneaks out of her.]
Are you asking me or telling me? I could keep going if you've got some pulled muscles or a headache you haven't told me about.
[ mal takes another deep breath, then two more. it's grounding and he takes a moment to take stock of how he's feeling.
no headache, nothing sore. ] No, I'm... I feel healed. [ like when the heartrender had done it but rey's been more thorough, going beyond what's just enough.
so while it's a rare peak of laughter from rey, mal offers a genuine smile. ] Thank you.
[She's honestly not really all that sure what to do with that gratitude or the fact that she likes that she made him smile, so instead of an actual answer she just pats his hand and takes hers away from him, lets them rest on the edge of the bed while she looks around them.]
No one's really paying much attention now if you want to try to slip out.

I can heal you if you don't want to stay there and let them treat you.

is it like magic? [ like what the grisha of his world can do. ]

Hmm. Better address that. He tries for the joke and so she gives him the smile, but she also reaches a hand out to rest on his arm.]
I'm dead too. If that helps. Maybe we'll cancel each other out, two dead people make a live one.
[And she tries to gloss right over it, make it something he can just not talk about if he wants to avoid it by changing the subject.]
This won't hurt and you won't see anything, but if you want to close your eyes now would be a good time.
